TDI07: A new lens

This day in 2007:

New 100-400L

My new “Africa” Lens arrived.  The EF 100-400L (the big white one) side by side with my existing EF 70-300 lens.

It is twice the size, twice the weight, more than twice the cost and for Africa, more than twice as valuable.

The lens was invaluable for getting good upclose shots of animals.  The shots I got cant even be compared to those who only had a standard 3x zoom.  At times I wished it was smaller and lighter but I was always glad I had it.

I am not sure what to do with it now.  It seems like a bit of overkill so I might consider replacing it with a 70-200L lens??

Short video (90sec) on what a photographer carries in his bag

Just saw this over at the JMG-Gallaries blog that I follow. This guy runs through what he keeps in his bag.

Summary of main equipment:

Canon 1D mIII
Canon 1D mII
Canon 70-200
Canon 16-35 mII
Canon 100 2.8 macro
Extenter 2x
+ accessories

Worth a look.

What the pro photographers use.

Interesting video by a female fashion photographer. The first one goes through the equipment in her bag which I found really interesting.

Her equipment is:

Canon 1Dn MarkII x2
28-70 2.8
17-40 4.0
50 1.4
70-200 2.8

Not a bad selection lens and is pretty much my dream selection (it has nothing to do with the fact that they are the premium zoom lens, with the exception of the 17-40)

The second one talks more about the industry, in particular female fasion photographers
